In December, I acted in a moment of weakness . . .
Our family was so sad when our puppy was hit and killed by a car on Nov. 6th. Surprisingly, I was quite sad too. But what broke my heart was seeing my kids mope around and weep on and off for days and days. In this weakened state, along with the magic of the Christmas spirit, I agreed to a Christmas puppy! I broke my own rule of never getting a puppy in winter. --
Yes, she is cute. And look at those smiling faces! But, it was too cold for her to be outside. Her kennel took up the whole downstairs bathroom/laundry room. I thought I was done with potty training and cleaning up "you-know-what" after Katelyn was trained. I was occasionally hit with a horrible smell when I went down there. Yes, she would go poo in her kennel! Then she would step in it, and then she would wipe her messy paws all over the kennel. The worse place was the kennel door. I had to scrub off each metal post. Then I got to give her a bath! Merry Christmas! She also had a hard time holding her bladder. The rule was "on your lap or in the Kennel." I went to bed one night to find an anonymous note on my pillow. It read "Dear Mom, It seems to us the only thing you care about is your house." It was mom vs. family.
We named her Little Missy, but the nickname that has stuck is . . . Missy Poo Pies!
She is now Outside and things are better. When I took her to the vet for her shots, I asked him if she could be outside. His answer was just the ammunition I needed! I informed the family that Missy Poo Pies was now an outside dog . . . doctors orders! (I also got to treat her for worms and a bladder infection - antibiotics twice daily for 7 days).
I know she is "just a puppy" and I also know that it will continue to get better. When I see my kids playing with her, or just holding and cuddling with her, I smile and think . . . Okay, It's worth it.
